A Medicine Hat begins with a dream, a vision, an intention...
Your Medicine Hat is a tool for transformation, for the healing of your world. A blessing on your head.
Every stitch a prayer.
Bringing sacredness into the objects that we put on our bodies, Medicine Hats are designed and crafted to be worn as an altar on your head. The brim provides protection for your body, mind, and spirit; the crown supports your connection to Source.
The wool for Medicine Hat bodies is sheered from sheep in the Argentinian countryside before being pressed into dense felt for a sturdy hat that will hold up over time. Our fur is a blend of rabbit and coypu - a sustainable alternative to its cousin, the beaver. We partner with weavers to craft beautiful, often one-of-a-kind bands, and collect Medicine pieces from around the world and throughout time.
Born in Berkeley
Harmonizing ceremonial songs and protocols with the art of Medicine Hat making, Hampui's founder Willee dreams hats to serve his community. He can be found making prayers as hats in his workshop in Berkeley, California or on the road in his Mobile Medicine Hat Studio.
Process of Prayer
It is our daily practice to ensure that each Medicine Hat is made in an energetically aligned way. All of the materials are cleansed with sage, and any excess that can't be reused is burned. We believe that Medicine Hats are tools for personal transformation and that the hat, like the prayer, can touch future generations.
Hampui means 'Soul of mine, return to me' in Quechua - the language spoken by Willee's first hat-making mentor in Bolivia. We offer Medicine Hats as tools for healing—to call back all pieces of your soul so that you can know your highest self.
A blessing on your head.
